ICC Women's T20 World Cup: Daisy May Cooper rallies the nation as England embark on bid to win title on home soil

England commence their ICC Women's T20 World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on Friday, live on Your Site and NOW, and award-winning actor Daisy May Cooper has been hard at work rallying the nation and spreading World Cup fever.

Alongside a 'World Cup Task Force' which features Red Roses Women's World Cup winner Hannah Botterman, England cricket great Ebony Rainford-Brent MBE, comedian Guz Khan and content creator Max Fosh, the group share what a home Women's T20 World Cup means to them.

"As a mum, I love seeing female role models on our screens as I know what a difference it can make," May Cooper said.

"We've seen in recent years what can happen when a nation gets behind women's sport, and I hope this inspires fans up and down the country to tune in and cheer their side on."

The group gathers in a writers' room where they are tasked with capturing 'the essence' of the impact and meaning a tournament can have on the nation.

But as the group struggles to focus on the same idea, with Khan reliving his 'legendary' backyard century, and Fosh steering the conversation into something more meaningful, May Cooper finds her voice.

"Isn't it about a magic moment, a shared memory," she says.

"I remember how it felt being a little girl with a big dream. I felt the spirit of the country where we all came together. I know what it's like to perform with the heart of the nation behind you.

"I know what it's like to have hope and turn those hopes into dreams. Those dreams really do come true!"

This year, England are hoping to end a 17-year-long drought to win the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, and repeat the feats of Heather Knight's side, who won the ODI Women's World Cup in 2017.

"A home World Cup can be such a powerful moment for the sport," Rainford-Brent, who was a part of the England squad during the 2009 campaign, said.

"We've seen the successes of the Lionesses and Red Roses in recent years, and we hope this summer can be equally defining for women's cricket.

"Having played and won in 2009, I know just how much it can help inspire younger generations to pick up a bat or a ball."
